A New Chapter for Vanilla Box Productions with "Steel Magnolias"
Vanilla Box Productions, founded by Christine and Joel Seeger, is navigating significant challenges as it transitions away from its longtime home at Holy Name Central Catholic High School due to renovations. Despite the cancellation of summer shows like "La Cage Aux Folles" and "Hello Dolly" due to the pandemic, the theater group is embracing innovation by hosting a live-streamed reading of the all-female play "Steel Magnolias." This virtual event, reuniting the cast from their 2015 production, symbolizes resilience and adaptation in the face of adversity.
As Vanilla Box Productions enters its 14th season, the Seegers remain committed to their community roots, having transformed a children's summer program into a year-round theater company. While facing financial hurdles and the challenges of remote collaboration, they remain hopeful for the future, looking to engage audiences through new formats. The live stream of "Steel Magnolias" represents not only a creative opportunity but also a chance to maintain connections with their audience and the theatrical community during these unprecedented times.
